Fuji X-T5 – My Honest Thoughts After Using It for a Few Months
Jun 23, 2025
So… I finally made the switch to the Fujifilm X-T5, and let me just say: it’s a bit of a dream.
I’d been eyeing it up for a while, mainly because I wanted something small(ish), powerful, and, let’s be real — just nicer to shoot with. I’m not into lugging around chunky DSLRs, and I’m definitely not here for overcomplicated menus. Enter: the X-T5.
First Impressions
Honestly? It’s a beauty. Fuji always nails the design — it looks like an old-school film camera but comes packed with proper modern features. It’s lightweight, solid in the hands, and those manual dials? Chef’s kiss. If you like being in control without diving into menus every two minutes, this one’s for you.
What I Use It For
I mainly shoot lifestyle bits, street scenes, and the odd portrait session — and this camera just gets it done. The colours straight out of camera are unreal (Fuji’s film simulations really do hit different). Most of the time I barely need to edit anything — just a tweak here and there.
It’s fast, it’s sharp, and it makes me want to get outside and shoot — which, let’s be honest, is half the battle.
A Few Favourite Features
40MP sensor – Sounds like overkill, but it means I can crop in without destroying quality.
Classic Chrome film sim – My go-to. It’s like moody magic without filters.
IBIS (in-body stabilisation) – Helps when I forget my tripod (so, most of the time).
Flippy screen – It tilts in just the right way. No awkward angles or neck pain.
Downsides?
Nothing major, but if we’re being picky:
The battery’s fine, but not amazing. I always carry a spare.
Not a touchscreen-heavy camera — some might miss that, but I prefer dials anyway.
The price. It’s not cheap, but you’re paying for quality. And once you use it, you get it.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a photographer who wants something that’s fun to use, delivers beautiful images, and doesn’t make you feel like you’re working a tech support shift every time you change a setting — the X-T5 is so worth it.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
Would I recommend it to other creatives? 100%.
Would I swap it for something else? Nope, I’m good thanks.
